I was never a wrestling tape trader, but a few years ago a friend gave me his collection of a show called PWTW (Pro Wrestling This Week). The shows that I have are from 1987 during the WM III build and I have to say, I am shocked that this show even existed. It was a news magazine show hosted by Gordon Sollie and Joe Pedecino (his brainchild, apparently) and they openly discussed the existence of territories and showed highlights from around the country, including official WWF material. I am surprised that the WWF would allow their footage to be used in a show that exhibited what they explicit denied- the existence of other promotions and territories. The shows themselves are packed with some true gems, showing future stars wrestling in the dark, smoked filled arenas of the smaller territories (most notably The Rockers and a very young Kurt Henig in the tapes I have). Each episode featured a foreign match of the week, often from Japan, which was amazing for 87, as well as some archival footage from the 50s and 60s. The then current content was a mixture of squash matches, finishes, and the occasional well-worked match. The proceedings were topped off with a young Bill Apter doing a comically uncomfortable rankings and opinion segment.
I haven't been able to find any real information about this show, other than the few lines about it on Wikipedia, but it seems like the shows are starting to crop up on YouTube, and they are definitely worth watching if you were a wrestling fan from the 80s. In fact, I can't think of a more unique wrestling show from this time period.
